The Essentials

Prepare

Prepare for Your Connect Group:

You can prepare each week for your Small Group by answering the three questions in this section:

1. What did I learn from my daily reading this week in What On Earth Am I Here For?

2. What do I want to ask or discuss further with my Connect Group this week?

Session Warm Up: You will open each meeting by briefly discussing a question or two that will help focus everyone’s attention on the subject of the lesson.

Power Verse: Each week you will find a key Bible verse that serves as the foundation for the lesson. Try to commit the power verses to memory each week if possible.

Video Lesson: There is a video lesson for the group to watch together each week. Fill in the blanks in the lesson outlines as you watch the video, and then you can refer back to these outlines during your discussion time.

Group Discussion: Each video comes with a few questions for your group to discuss. Please don’t feel pressured to discuss every single question. There is no reason to rush through the answers. Give everyone ample opportunity to share their thoughts. If you don’t get through all of the questions, that’s okay.

Pray Together: At the end of each session you will find suggestions for your group prayer time. Praying together is one of the greatest privileges of Connect Group life. Be sure to engage your group in this critical time.

Session Wrap: The final section of each session will provide you with next week’s assignment and any action steps to take.

Guidelines

We recommend you discuss your guidelines during Session 1 in order to lay the foundation for a healthy group experience. Feel free to modify anything that does not work for your group.

Clear Purpose: To Connect & Grow in my relationship with Jesus and others

Group Attendance: Therefore Connect Group is a priority for me

Safe Environment: To create a safe place where people can be heard and feel loved (no quick answers, snap judgments, or simple fixes)

Confidential: To keep anything that is shared strictly confidential and within the group

Conflict: To avoid gossip and to immediately resolve any concerns by following the principles of Matthew 18:15-17

Spiritual Health: To give group members permission to speak into my life and help me live a healthy, balanced spiritual life that is pleasing to God

Newcomers: To invite friends and to make newcomers feel welcome.

Relationships: To get to know the other members of the group and pray for them regularly
